Nepali Hajis ‘safe’
KATHMANDU: Nepali Hajis were unharmed in the accident that occurred in Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, the Home Ministry, Central Hajj Committee, has said in a statement issued here. Dozens of people were killed when a five-story building near the entrance of the mosque in Islam’s holiest city collapsed. — RSS
Narayan Gopal award
KATHMANDU: The Narayan Gopal Youth Music Award for this year will be awarded to singer Sangita Shaha for her immense contribution to Nepal music, the Rastriya Yuba Kosh has informed. The award, established by the Rastriya Yuba Kosh, carries a purse of Rs 30,000 and a gold medal. The Araniko Youth Artist Award will also be jointly given to artists Tirtha Niraula and Sudarshan Bikram Rana for their contribution to modern, creative paintings and sculptures. The award carries a purse of Rs 40,000 and a gold medal. — RSS
Health camp held
KATHMANDU: A day-long health camp was organised at the Pashupati briddhashram by the Nepal Ayurbed Research and Development Society. Senior gynaecologist Dr Sarita Shrestha, Dr Naresh Bhandari, Dr Jhularam Adhikari, Dr Surendra Chaudhari, and Dr Kumar Kasula checked the elderly people at the camp organised under the convenorship of the chairman of the society, Dr Rupendra Puri. As many as 250 elderly people underwent health check-up and medicines were distributed free of cost. — RSS
Calamity panel meets
KATHMANDU: The Central Natural Calamity Rescue Committee met here on Friday. Presided over by the chairperson of the committee, Home Minister Kamal Thapa, the meeting approved an immediate strategy on earthquake risk minimisation and emergency rescue and constituted a task force with experts concerned for increasing preparation and public awareness for earthquake risk mitigation. — RSS
Epilepsy society’s poll
KATHMANDU: Professor Dr Jagadish Prasad Agrawal has been elected as the chairman of the Nepal Epilepsy Society. Likewise, Dr Rabindra Shrestha has been elected as vice-chairman, Dr Saroj Prasad as general secretary, Dr Pawan Kumar as treasurer and Dr Arpana Neupane, Dr Manen Gorkhali and Dr Sudarshan Narsingh Pradhan as members of the society. — RSS
Call for peace
Kathmandu: Nepalis based in Hong Kong are ready to make investment in Nepal and give a boost to the economy, a Nepali based in Hong Kong, Ishwore Khand, said at an interaction held in Kathmandu today, and called on the government to create an investment-friendly environment. Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country, he said: “We will make investment here if peace is restored”. According to him, some 60,000 Nepalis have been living in Hong Kong at present. — HNS
