NSU cadre held
KATHMANDU: Police arrested Anil Thapa, a cadre of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), from the District Police Office, Hanumandhoka, on Saturday. Thapa had gone to the office to meet Gagan Kumar Thapa, a student leader. Anil was arrested without a warrant, the NSU said. — HNS
Kavita’s new album
KATHMANDU: After 28 years since she recorded her first album, popular folk singer Kavita Ale has come up with the new version of her Uthi Khar Katau, Basi Khar Katau. Singer Koili Devi Mathema launched the cassette amidst a function here on Saturday. The album also features Ale’s youngest son Kranti, who is an emerging pop singer, and another singer Madhu Gurung. — HNS
16-km road metalled
Kathmandu: The Public Works Department under the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) blacktopped a 16-km stretch of road in the city and constructed, in all, a nine-kilometre-long drainage system in the last fiscal year. According to the department head, Sanjay Raj Upadhyay, the department, with assistance from the people and the Nepal Roads Board, blacktopped short roads in 39 places at a cost of Rs 60 million. The blacktopped roads include the Pasang Lhamu road stretch in Mahankal, 800-metre Madhav Nagar Samparka Marga and 700-metre Bouddha Dwar Marga, 700-metre Lik Marga (Kuleswor), 500-metre Chhauni Bahiti road and Bhagawati Mai Marga (Balkhu). The KMC also constructed retaining walls and pavements. — HNS
