Woman held with hashish
KATHMANDU: A police team of Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU), New Baneshwor, arrested a woman with 8 kg hashish from Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday. Kani Sherpa, 30, was arrested during a routine check at the TIA. Sherpa, who hails from Tatopani-8, was scheduled to fly to Bangkok through the Thai Airways’ 320 flight. — HNS
Bomb hoax creates panic
KATHMANDU: Traffic came to a halt for an hour at Chabahil due to a hoax bomb hung on a bamboo pole at Gauridhara on way to Dhumbarai. According to police, a person informed about the bomb at 5 pm. The bomb disposal team found that the bag contained papers, Shekhar Koirala, inspector at Gaushala Ward Police Office said. — HNS
SAFMA-FNJ joint report
KATHMANDU: The joint report of South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) and Federation
of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) launched in the capital on Friday has pointed out a disturbing trend in newspaper reporting with scribes based in the districts facing a dangerous situation. The report based on research conducted between April 20-26 has compared the lot of city-based journalists with those in rural areas. — HNS
Theft at foundation
KATHMANDU: Property worth Rs 1 lakh was stolen from the central office of Madan-Ashrit Memorial Foundation at Gothatar on Wednesday, according to office assistant, Bishnu Khanal. The thieves broke open the office. A computer, printer, UPS and invaluable documents were stolen, he said. — HNS
Students help street kids
LALITPUR: Students of Mahendra Adarsha Vidhyashram collected Rs 1,540 and handed it over to street children who staged a play at its premises. As part of the campaign Ek vidyarathi, ek rupaiya aims to rehabilitate street children through theatre. — HNS
Water conservation day
KATHMANDU: From this year, NGO Forum for Urban Water and Sanitation, a forum of NGOs working on water and sanitation issues, has decided to celebrate the Sithi Nakhaa festival which falls on June 13 this year as Nepal Water Conservation Day. The Kathmandu Valley residents clean water-spouts, wells and ponds on this day which helps in preserving the environment. — HNS
Zonal office established
LALITPUR: The government has set up the zonal administration office of Bagmati zone at Jawalakhel. The office has already started functioning. — RSS
