BHAKTAPUR: A group of six armed persons on Sunday night looted property worth Rs 100,000 from the house of Madan Kaphley at Balkot-6 of Bhaktapur. According to police, the gang of masked persons overpowered the family members and took away cash and valuables from the house. — HNS

One held for ‘trafficking’:

KATHMANDU: A joint team of police and Maiti Nepal on Monday arrested an Indian national for allegedly trying to traffic in five girls to India through an RNAC flight. Police said the Indian national had allured the girls for better jobs in New Delhi. They were scheduled to take off on Monday.”When we found his behaviour suspicious, we caught him and interrogated. Makalu ascent’s 50th year:

KATHMANDU: The golden jubilee of the first ascent on Mt Makalu and Mt Kanchanjunga is to be observed on May 15 and May 25 respectively by organising a variety of programmes. Marking the same occasion, mountaineering teams coming to scale the mountains from March to June this year will be exempted of the mountaineering royalty by 50 per cent, according to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. — RSS

Tripathy awarded:

KATHMANDU: The Bidwotshiromani Hem Raj prize of the year 2060 BS has been awarded to Prof Jagannath Tripathy. The prize is being given for his contribution in Nepali language and grammar. The prize consists of cash prize of Rs 35, 000. — RSS

Peace keepers return:

KATHMANDU: The first team of the first contingent of the Bhairabnath Battalion which was deployed in Burundi at the call of the United Nations for peace keeping mission, returned home on Sunday after completing their assignment there. The team was welcomed at the Gauchar Barrack amid a function by Quarter Master General Govind Bahadur Gurung. — RSS

Civic bodies get orders:

KATHMANDU: Municipalities concerned bear the responsibility of managing the daily output of solid waste from municipality areas and necessary work is underway for enforcement of this responsibility, the Ministry of Local Development has said. A ministry press release said instructions have been issued to all municipalities in the Valley to carry out collection and transportation of solid waste by 7 am every day with the objective of enhancing efficiency of the task of solid waste management and the municipalities have acting accordingly. — RSS
