EC asked to clarify

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to the Election Commission regarding the registration of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum led by Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar. A single bench of Justice Top Bahadur Magar issued the order following the hearing on Tuesday. A 15-day time-frame have been given to Gachhadar-led MJF, for submission of explanation. The bench further asked the EC to attend a hearing,that would decide whether or not to issue an interim order, on October 12. — HNS

Maiti Nepal eyes prize

KATHMANDU: Maiti Nepal is in the field, competing with 13 other countries, for the 'A Decade Hero' Award-2009. The global election for the award was held amongst winners of World Child Right Award, today. Maiti Nepal had won the World Child Right Award-2001. Anuradha Koirala, president Maiti Nepal had lobbied nationwide and also in India, Japan and America to be in Maiti Nepal's favour. "The prize will be announced on November 20 and is as same as Nobel Prize to children'" she said. Pakistan, Ethiopia, South Africa, Burundi, Sudan, Thailand, Kenya, Mozambique, Canada, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Cambodia were competing with Nepal she added. — HNS

Two held with bombs

KATHMANDU: The police, arrested two cadres of a Madhesh-based armed outfit with 10 socket bombs in Yangbobahal, Lalitpur, yesterday. The arrested have been identified as Indian national Mohammad Rashid and Arun Singh, SSP Birendra Babu Shrestha, in-charge Metropolitan Police Crime Division confirmed. — HNS
