Indefinite stir at Bir Hospital enters Day II
KATHMANDU: The resident doctors, who are on indefinite stir, at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) continued their protest for the second day today stalling the regular services at the Bir Hospital.
The resident doctors had padlocked the Vice-Chancellor’s office, since yesterday, demanding implementation of agreement that was signed some four months ago. Talking to The Himalayan Times, Dr Arbin Joshi, spokesperson, Resident Association, NAMS maintained that they would not hold talks with the VC as he could not fulfil their demands. He said, “The agreement signed earlier was not implemented. We’ll hold talks only with officials of Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) or with the Health Minister.”
Joshi said their demands also include reduction of tuition fees of MBBS students under scholarship programme. “We are going to submit a letter of memorandum to the ministry tomorrow.” As part of their indefinite protest, the resident doctors boycotted their duties in the Out-patient Department. Around 100 resident doctors are on protest.
