India finish on top with 174 gold, hosts Nepal take second spot

KATHMANDU: The ten-day-long 13th edition of the South Asian Games has come to an end today.

India maintained their dominance at the regional sporting mega-event and finished on the top spot with a total of 312 medals including 174 gold, 93   silver and 45 bronze medals.

Hosts Nepal beat their previous record of highest gold medals won at the SAG by securing 51 gold, their previous best being 31 at the 1999 edition which was also hosted by Nepal.

Nepal secured a total of 206 medals, 60 silver and 95 bronze medals included.

On the final day of the event, Nepal gathered two golds from boxing and football while India collected 10 gold.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives secured 40, 31, 19 and 1 gold respectively, their total tally being 251, 131, 138 and 5 medals.

Bhutan took the bottom spot without having won any gold, however clinching 7 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The closing ceremony was hosted on Tuesday evening.
