Indian national coming from UAE held with 4 kg gold at TIA

KATHMANDU: An Indian national who arrived from the United Arab Emirates was held in possession of four kilogram of undeclared gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in the Capital on Friday.

The suspected gold smuggler has been identified as Ram Niwas Verma of India, bearing Passport Number 82529595.

Police said that the 57-year-old man landed at the TIA boarding an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah.

After the security personnel found out that he possessed the yellow metal worth Rs 16.976 millions without declaring it, Verma was arrested from the the immigration checkpoint of the TIA's International Terminal.

He had already passed through the customs when the security personnel intercepted him.

According to police, the suspect had hidden "four pieces" of precious metal in his body.

Police said they are looking into the case.
