Inedible sweets destroyed in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR: Bhaktapur Municipality monitoring committee on Friday destroyed inedible sweets found in various sweet shops in the municipality area.

A team led by committee coordinator and Ward 3 chair Raj Krishna Gora inspected nine sweet shops. During the monitoring, most of the shops were found using excessive colouring agents on the sweets and stale oil for cooking them.

All the inedible items found in the shops were destroyed, ward food inspector Ram Krishna Prajapati said. Likewise, many shops were found running without registration at the local authorities.

The committee inspected Prakash Basuka Sweet Shop, RM Khaja Ghar, New Labisa Sweet Shop, Nawadurga Chat House, Laxmi Sweets and Chat Palace, Dinesh Lachimasyu’s Restaurant and Sweets Shop, Ram Kesar Prajapati Tea Shop, and Bimal Thapa’s Sweet Shop in Chyamasingh.

Also, the team destroyed 130 packets of Arun Kesari food colour from Nawashakti Enterprizes. As per the law, anyone found selling inedible sweets is liable to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 50,000, said food inspector Shiva Prasad Bhandari.
