IOM, NMC directed to ensure resumption of MBBS classes at Janaki Medical College

KATHMANDU: A parliamentary committee has shown concerns on the disruption of the MBBS classes at the Janakpur-based Janaki Medical College.

A meeting of the Social Justice and Human Rights Committee, Legislature-Parliament on Sunday decided to direct the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Nepal Medical Council (NMC) to immediately initiate a process to resume the classes within the next ten days with addressing problems.

The Committee said that the disruption of classes has posed a serious threat to future of some 317 students pursuing the MBBS degree at the college.

The MBBS classes at the college have remained closed for the past ten months.

Committee President Sushil Kumar Shrestha chaired the meeting.

The meeting agreed to recommend punitive action against college founders, ensure compensation to the victim students, and to form a five–member committee to carry out study about problems seen in granting affiliation to run medical colleges and processes in the operation.
