KATHMANDU: Police said they arrested a jailbird who had run away from the Sindhupalchok District Jail on April 25 last year when a magnitude-7.6 earthquake rattled the nation.

The 39-year-old Giriraj Khatri was jailed for his involvement in a rape case, but had fled the sentence taking advantage of the post-disaster crisis.

He was arrested from Lalitpur today.

Further investigation is underway.
