Jailbird’s drug racket busted, nine held

Kathmandu, November 30:

The police have busted a drug racket, run by Ratan KC, an inmate of Nakkhu jail in Lalitpur.

KC has been serving a five-year term for drug trafficking. He was arrested three years ago for carrying 108 gm of brown sugar on him.

The Narcotic Drug Control and Law Enforcement Unit (NDCLEU) had busted the racket that comprised nine members, including two women.

Codenamed Operation Pull, the drive led to the seizure of 833 gm of brown sugar, Rs 39,000 in cash, a motorbike, eight cellular phones and a digital weighing machine, which was used to measure the contraband.

“The accused were arrested during a week-long operation. Among the arrested, some are locals while are rest are from outside the Valley. They were held from various parts of the city,” said Hemanta Malla, SP, chief, NDCLEU.

The district court had also slapped KC with Rs 2-lakh fine in 2005.
