Janajatis readying for decisive stir: NEFIN

Kathmandu September 20:

General secretary of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), Ram Bahadur Thapa, said today the NEFIN is preparing to launch a movement as the government is not serious towards implementing the agreement made with the federation.

Addressing an interaction today, Thapa requested all the indigenous people and organisations to help the NEFIN go for a stronger movement. “As political scenario has changed, we have no need to stick to our demands,” he said.

“If the C A polls are not held, we will lose the great opportunity,” said a senior poet and academician, Bairagi Kainla. “Parties will benefit even if we adopt a fully proportional election system,” he said. He praised the ILO convention 169, claiming it has helped people know about indigenous people.

Director of the ILO, Shengjie Lee, said the government should change discriminatory laws. He urged to focus on effective implementation of the convention 169. Minister of State for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Indra Bahadur Gurung said effective implementation of the convention is a tough task.
