Judges’ Society flays NBA move

Kathmandu, January 4:

The Judges’ Society today condemned the Nepal Bar Association for its recent decision that sought resignation of Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel and ad hoc judge Pawan Kumar Ojha and accused them of being incompetent to protect the independence of the judiciary.

“It is dismaying that such an insulting language came from the institution of intellectual lawyers against the honourable Chief Justice and the Sc judge,” a press release issued by the Society said.

The society is headed by Supreme Court justice Kedar Prasad Giri and all the judges of the Supreme Court, Appellate Courts and District Courts remain the member of the Society.

The society called on the bar body to stop such actions as they hinder the judicial sector and the people may face trouble as a result. The Society said the NBA activities are against the long-established friendly relation between the bench and the bar. It also called on the NBA to withdraw its protest programmes.
