Kathmandu, March 17:
The Kathmandu district police office today summoned the editor of Kantipur, the largest selling vernacular daily, to question him about a report published in the paper on Tuesday.
Responding to a written letter issued by deputy superintendent of police Hari Bahadur Pal, editor Narayan Wagle went to the district police office at Hanumandhoka at 9 am along with dozens of journalists. After an almost 45-minute-long meeting with superintendent of police Indra Prasad Neupane, Wagle told the journalists that the police asked him about the report on the political leaders and activists being arrested during the anti-King protests held throughout Nepal on March 14. The police said the report was against the spirit of the February 1 royal take over, he said. But Wagle told the police that it was not the authoritative body to question the contents of a newspaper. This is harassment of the Press which is already reeling under the state of Emergency, said Wagle.
