Karki recommended as new CJ again

Kathmandu: The Constitutional Council today re-recommended Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki for the post of Chief Justice.

According to the prime minister’s press adviser Pramod Dahal, the CC re-recommended Karki’s name as Speaker Onsari Gharti had not put her signature on the decision paper.

In a meeting of the Constitutional Council held today, members of the Council approved Karki’s name for the post.

Karki became Acting Chief Justice after Kalyan Shrestha retired from the post of chief justice due to age bar.

The Constitutional Council seems to have repeated the process to avoid any controversy likely to occur as Speaker Onsari Gharti was not present in the meeting on April 10.

Speaker Gharti had reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the nomination process as the constitution requires 100 per cent attendance of CC members to take any decision.
