Kathmandu, January 4:

Over sixty people belonging to Kashmiri Business Community today met the Indian Embassy’s second secretary, Dhiraj Mukhia, and urged him to help in finding out the whereabouts of one of their colleagues missing since yesterday.

“We have requested the embassy and provided details of Fakim Jaffar Rahman along with necessary documents,” said one of the community members, Javid Tramboo, who is a resident of Srinagar, Kashmir. The community has also filed a missing person’s report at the Sohrakhutte ward police station and the District Police Office, Hanumandhoka.

Javid said that the second secretary has assured them not to worry as the embassy would do its best to find out his whereabouts. “The Kashmiri Business Community is very much concerned about the unfortunate incident and is also terrified at the same time,” said Javid, adding that the community is trying to contact human rights organisations to request them to save his life. The Kashmiri Business Community has raised serious concern over Rahman’s whereabouts as his family members are extremely worried. “His spouse is also expecting a baby,” said Khurshid Bazaz, another member of the community.

Some Kashmiri community members like Abdul Rasid, Abdul Qadir, Altaf Ahmad Punjabi and Showkat Ahmad Najar have also appealed to the government to help in finding his whereabouts as soon as possible. “Rahman, who hails from Srinagar in India, has been working at the shop called Crescent Art at Thamel for the past 10 years. He has never been involved in any anti-social activities,” said Javid. Over 100 Kashmiris are running businesses in Thamel for decades.
