KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 28

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to launch a digital literacy programme aimed at helping residents safely carry out online transactions and reduce exposure to cyber risks.

KMC spokesperson Nabin Manandhar said the training is being introduced to strengthen public awareness amid rising internet-related insecurities. "With the growing use of information technology, every individual should know proper internet use and basic digital security. Technology makes life easier, but risks rise equally if used carelessly," he said.

Manandhar noted that improving citizens' digital skills is essential for expanding access to public services and for effective implementation of e-governance. "People must be aware of cyber security. This training supports that responsibility and strengthens the foundations for a digital Nepal," he added.

According to Anirudra Nepal, chief of KMC's Information Technology Department, the first phase of the training will begin in wards 17, 18, 19 and 29, with expansion planned across all wards.

The sessions will cover topics such as creating strong passwords, using one-time passwords (OTP), identifying viruses and suspicious links, and understanding basic online safety tools.
