KMC won’t be able to implement all plans

Kathmandu, June 17 :

A Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) official said today that the metropolis can complete only one-fifth of the annual development programmes this year.

“Due to various kinds of disturbances, we have expected to complete only some 20 per cent of the development works designed for this year,” said Bimal Rijal, head of the Public Works Department.

He said last year the KMC had completed upgrading 16 km of roads with some Rs 10 crore, but this year it is difficult to complete even three km of road works. “We have only one month remaining to complete the works,” he added. He said frequent changes in officials of the KMC due to change in the political scenario of the nation is the major reason behind the disturbances in the development works of the metropolis.

Pradeep Gautam of Public Works Department of KMC said the department

is working on various places and is planning to work at some other places, which will be completed within a month.

According to him, maintenance works at Thamel and upgrading roads at Dallu, Bafal, Samakhushi is underway. Maintenance works at Shanti Nagar and inside the Kuleswor Residential Area would be completed soon, he said.

Meanwhile, the KMC has formed various committees to support the chief executive officer to whom the executive power has been transferred by the government following the dismissal of the elected people’s representative during the royal government.

“The informal committees, however, have no work-division,” said a KMC officer , adding that committees are of no use.

The formed committees are Development and construction, Revenue Mobilisation, Administration Management, Environment, Financial support, Payment and Talks.
