Koteshwor-Jadibuti road expansion under way

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 17

Road expansion along the Koteshwor-Jadibuti section is underway.

According to Kathmandu Division Road Office, a contract has been signed to complete the road expansion by the end of the current fiscal year.

Division Chief Kuber Nepali said seven per cent construction activities of the road had been completed so far. The road section is being expanded to add three more lanes. A deal was struck to expand the road at an estimated cost of Rs 80 million, he added.

“Two lanes will be constructed on the right side towards Jadibuti from Koteshwor and one lane on the left side. Preparation for expansion of the road has reached the final phase.” The expansion is expected to ease traffic along the usually high-traffic road stretch.

The road division office has been clearing away physical infrastructure constructed on either side of the road from September.

A plan has been set to expand the road up to Manohara bridge in the coming days. However, the Department of Roads is of the view that an underpass or a flyover will be the best longterm solution to the traffic jam along the road section.
