KATHMANDU: Minister for Labor and Employment Farmullah Mansoor has, during his meeting with Ambassador of South Korea  for Nepal, Park Yong- Sik today, called on the South Korean Government to increase perks and facilities for Nepali migrant workers there.

During the meeting that was held at the office of Minister Mansoor, the ambassador was urged to open employment vacancies for Nepal's skilled and technical human resources such as doctors and engineers, increase quota for Nepali workers to be hired under the Employment Permit System, open vacancies for 'care giver' and expand the demand for female workers.

According to the Minister, he drew the attention of the South Korean Government towards the increasing  rate of death and suicide among Nepali migrant workers there.

South Korea had in 2007 struck a deal with Nepal relating to the hire of Nepali workers through the EPS and so far over 35 thousand Nepali workers have reached there. It has announced to hire additional 10 thousand workers for the year 2018.

In response, the ambassador said he took the issues raised by Nepal seriously and would convey them to the South Korean Government.

Expressing happiness over Nepal's capability to conclude the first and second phase of local level elections successfully, the South Korean ambassador pledged continuous support from South Korea for Nepal's economic development efforts.
