Land mapping project in limbo
KATHMANDU: Chamati Land Integration of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), a three-year project, which began six years ago, is yet to be completed owing to disputes.
According to the KMC, Rs 650 million was earmarked for the land mapping project at Chamati in Ward No 15 and 16 of the KMC.
The project spreading over 1,369 ropanis of land, had originally been planned to pool the land and distribute it scientifically to the people. As per the plan, the 1,369 ropanies of land was to be divided into 17 blocks with planned roads, sewerage system and drinking water lines.
Er Bir Bahadur Khadka at the KMC said six years after the inception of the project, a little more than half the work has been accomplished thus far. He said that even if the disputes were resolved without further complication; the project would still take two more years to complete.
According to Khadka, problem in land pooling and a case filed at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), derailed the work.
Khadka said the project design has just been completed. Another progress made, according to him, was the distribution of permanent land-ownership certificate in four blocks - B, D, E and F. Among the major unfinished tasks is of the sewerage, which is yet to begin, he added.
During its inception, the much-touted project had envisaged constructing a road, park and greenery. But a dispute that ensued thereafter delayed the work. The landpooling is expected to convert 3,300 pieces of unwieldy land into some 2,200 well-rounded plots.
