KATHMANDU, JULY 20

Lawmakers have complained that it is a challenge for the general people to seek and get justice.

Drawing the government's attention to the need for overall improvement in the judiciary, lawmakers opined, "Corruption reported in the judiciary is worrisome." Speaking in a session of the House of Representatives today, the lower House members also sought the government's intervention to combat incidences of drowning and road accidents.

Prakash Rasaili Snehi was of the view that the judiciary was beyond the access of the general people and a high-level reform and direction commission should be formed to undertake efforts targeting the overall improvement of the judiciary. Parbata Kumari Bishukhne spoke of the need to restructure the judiciary to make it people-friendly. She said only imposition of impeachment against judges would not bring change in the judiciary.

Dr Dila Sagraula Panta stressed that the government should focus on minimising road accidents as such cases were more likely during the monsoon season while Dil Kumari complained that no better medical care was available to respond to cases of snake bites though the fatalities were noticeable each year.

Tek Bahadur Basnet demanded sufficient budget allocation for the Madan Bhandari Highway while Dibyamani Rajbhandari pressed the idea for discouraging the use of private vehicles when the prices of petroleum products were skyrocketing.
