Left alliance against democracy, says PM

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today said the recently formed left alliance was against democracy and the Nepali Congress.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 64th anniversary of Tarun Dal, sister wing of the NC here today, President Deuba called for unity among party leaders and cadres to overcome challenges facing democracy.

He also claimed that NC would emerge victorious in polls as it was the only party that believed in democracy. The prime minister added that NC’s victory was necessary to institutionalise the democracy in the country.

Similarly, party senior leader Ramchandra Poudel directed the cadres to work towards ensuring the party’s victory in the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections. He also said that the left alliance was against democracy.

General Secretary Dr Sashanka Koirala was of the view that the democratic forces should not feel threatened by left alliance. NC leader and Tarun Dal’s former chair Balkrishna Khand and Tarun Dal Chair Jitjung Basnet, among others, urged party cadres to work towards ensuring the party’s victory in the elections.
