KATHMANDU, JUNE 10
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast the possibility of light rain beginning this Wednesday, which is expected to cause a slight dip in temperatures.
According to the Department, temperatures have risen across much of the Tarai-Madhesh belt and the Kathmandu Valley due to a prolonged absence of rainfall.
Meteorologist Pratima Manandhar noted that the western and central regions of the country are currently under the influence of westerly and local winds, while much of Koshi Province is experiencing the effects of monsoon air.
Although the monsoon is gradually approaching from the east, it has yet to fully activate nationwide, delaying its widespread impact. "The ongoing heatwave is largely due to the lack of rainfall," she said.
Some districts in Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini Provinces received light rainfall today, she added.
Manandhar highlighted the likelihood of light showers in various locations, including the Kathmandu Valley, starting Wednesday. "Temperatures will gradually decline from midweek as cloud formation continues and rain is expected," she explained.
Today, the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley reached 30°C, while Bhairahawa, Dhangadi, and Nepalgunj each recorded 41°C-the highest across the country.
The Department has forecast light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in parts of Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces. Similar weather conditions are expected in a few hilly areas of other provinces starting Wednesday.
Rainfall in some mountainous areas could affect daily life as well as road and air transportation. The Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions and ensure early preparedness to mitigate the potential impact of rain-induced disasters.
