Limbu lays claim to top CIAA post

Kathmandu, February 23:

At a time when the Constitutional Council is mulling over the appointment of chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, acting CIAA commissioner Lalit Bahadur Limbu today laid claim to the post and opposed the idea of appointing a new person to head the CIAA.

“It would be irrational if they appoint any other person for the post,” he said, adding, “But I hope they will consider my four decades of experience in the field of investigation.” Limbu wants to be appointed for the post as he has 10 more months for retirement.

The posts of two commissioners are also lying vacant in CIAA for the past two years. The council headed by the PM is making preparations to make political appointments in the posts.

The ruling Unified Maoist has proposed Ram Kumar Shrestha to head the CIAA. Similarly, the UML and the NC have proposed Udaya Nepali Shrestha and Shree Kanta Regmi, respectively, for the top post. All the three are former secretaries of the government. Their names were discussed for the top post in a recent meeting of the CC. “Since I already have five years of experience in CIAA and 35 years of experience with the National Investigation Department, I hope the council will do justice to me, considering the spirit of inclusiveness,” he argued.
