Lockout of TU journalism

Kathmandu, May 22:

The lockout at the Central Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the Tribhuvan University, at the Ratna Rajya Campus, was lifted today after nine days.

The lockout was lifted after the department, the college administration, the Free Students Union and the agitating students reached a ten-point agreement.

Earlier, on May 14, the students of MA Journalism and Mass Communication had padlocked the department at the Ratna Rajya Campus seeking fulfilment of their 11-point charter of demands.

The points of agreements include appointing Badri Prasad Poudyal as the acting department chief, running of the classes according to curriculum and selecting question papers strictly based on the curriculum and working jointly to make the department resourceful.

They have also agreed to include radio journalism in the Bachelors level third year curriculum as an optional subject, following appropriate standard while marking practical papers, opening department’s own library from June 15 among others.
