Probe panel concludes that ousted CIAA chief Karki cannot be impeached

KATHMANDU: The Parliament is unlikely to further the impeachment motion against the then chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Lok Man Singh Karki.

It has been learned that a probe panel under the Parliament's Impeachment Recommendation Committee has prepared a report with a conclusion that allegations against Karki could not be established and thus he would not have to face the impeachment.

Karki, who was mired in controversies since his appointment and while spearheading the anti-corruption constitutional body, automatically lost his job with the Supreme Court on January 8 observing that he was ineligible for the post.

Since Karki has already been removed from the CIAA, according to the report, the impeachment motion cannot move forward in the Parliament.
