Madhesi Front to boycott presidential election

KATHMANDU: Sadhbawana Party Co-Chairman Laxman Lal Karna on Tuesday said the Madhes-centric leaders made a serious mistake by participating in the Prime Minister’s election.

At an interaction organised by Reporters’ Club, Karna said the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) will not take part in the elections of the President and Vice-President.

Accusing the government of not being serious towards holding negotiations, Karna added that the dialogue could enter into a decisive round if the government broached a clear agenda incorporating the political demands of the Madhes-centric parties.

Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party senior leader Ram Naresh reaffirmed that the Madhesi people wanted to secure their rights while adding that Madhes-centric parties would be prepared anytime for decisive talks.

The government is responsible for easing the import and maintaining peace and security, Naresh said while charging that the government is completely failure to that end. He further argued that the government should either address the demands or quit state power.

CPN-UML's Bidya Bhandari and Nepali Congress's Kul Bahadur Gurung are vying for the presidential berth. The House is scheduled to hold the election tomorrow.
