Madhesi lawmakers obstruct House meeting again

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of the United Democratic Madhesi Front obstructed the Parliament meeting on Wednesday also.

After the lawmakers chanted slogans obstructing the House proceedings, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar announced postponement of the meeting till Sunday, December 27.

The Madhesi lawmakers have been obstructing the House for last few weeks demanding that discussions on the Constitution Amendment Bill should not be moved ahead before their demands were met.

The House was scheduled to begin discussions on the Bill today.

Ruling on Janakpur incident

Before the obstruction, lawmakers of various parties had criticised mistreatment to President Bidya Devi Bhandari in Janakpur last week.

They demanded that the government investigate into the case and book the miscreants.

In response, Speaker Gharti issued a ruling urging the government to inform the House what actually happened in Janakpur during the President's visit.

The United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres on Wednesday last week had protested the President’s visit to the Janaki Temple and reportedly mistreated her.

They had also vandalised the historic temple during the protest.

Amid the protests, the Head of the State, however, had visited the Temple to observe the Vivaha Panchami Mahotsav.
