Madhyapur Thimi mayor asked to call regular meetings

Kathmandu, January 7

Members of executive body of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality today urged Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha to call regular monthly meeting to ensure transparency in the activities of the municipality.

Mayor Shrestha has not called the executive body meeting of the municipality for the last three months. Meeting of the executive body of the municipality is supposed to be held every month.

Fifteen of the 19 members of the municipal executive body also filed a complaint against Mayor Shrestha, stating that lack regular meetings would put a question mark on the activities carried out by the municipal authority.

They said the executive body should be informed of each and every activit to maintain transparency.

Chair of Ward number 2 of the municipality Ram Thapa Magar said, “The mayor should stop taking decisions arbitrarily and should inform executive body members of his decisions. Furthermore, he should work in close concert with each and every member of the executive body.”

While the local bodies are complaining of lack of clear laws defining their jurisdiction, lack of coordination between elected representatives and government officials has hampered development work in most of the local levels across the country.
