Man donates eyes, body to hospital

Kathmandu, May 2:

Ailing for quite some time now, Meghraj Acharya,75, feels his days are numbered. And he has done what others would not dare to do. He has decided to donate his body after death to the Tribhuvan University Teaching hospital for the benefit of the medical students there.

Acharya hopes that medical sudents can make good use of his body in boosting their knowledge. In a written consent, he also seeks to donate his eyes. He says he is donating his eyes and his body in full consciousness and with his own free will. Acharya is a resident of Biratnagar. His wife Kamala, son Ashish and daughters also support his decision. He has been a member of the Communist Party of Nepal (United Centre). According to Acharya, it is difficult for medical students to acquire a body for experiment in a Hindu kingdom like Nepal. This is what prompted him to make such a decision.
