Man held for issuing death threat in bid to extort Rs 10mln
KATHMANDU: A 32-year-old man has been arrested on charge of issuing abduction and death threats to a financial institution operator in an apparent extortion bid, Nepal Police’s Metropolitan Crime Division said.
The suspect, identified as Bidur Paudel of Dhading, had repeatedly demanded Rs 10 million from the operator of Mukul Finance Ltd and warned that he could resort to abduction and murder if his demand was not met.
Police said the suspect had used various SIM cards, issued in the name of other persons, to intimidate his target through calls and text messages.
Paudel, who is currently residing in Nayabazar of Kathmandu, was apprehended by a special police team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division today.
Metropolitan Crime Division said the suspect has been handed over to the Teku-based Metropolitan Police Range for further investigation and action.
