KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 11
Police have arrested a man on the charge of raping an 11-year-old girl in her rented room at Balkot, Bhaktapur, last night.
The arrested has been identified as 35-year-old Ram Bahadur Sunar of Ward No 13 of Belkotgadhi Municipality, Nuwakot district, currently residing in Bouddha, Kathmandu.
Nepali, a close relative of the victim's parents had gone to the victim's house to celebrate the last day of Dashain. Nepali was requested by the parents of the victim to stay that night there with them. Police said the family members had also consumed some alcohol. But, after the parents of the girl fell asleep, the 35-year-old man, who the girl called uncle, allegedly raped the girl.
The fear-stricken girl who was forced to keep her silence all night was able to tell about Sunar's wrongdoing to her parents the next morning. "The young girl, who was traumatised after being raped by someone close to her family was able to tell about the incident to her parents only the next morning, after parents noticed that something was not right about her," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Pandey of Bhaktapur Police.
The parents of the victim had then filed a police report against Nepali, who was arrested immediately. Police said further investigation and medical check up of the girl was being conducted.
