Man held on fraud charge

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday apprehended a man for a fraud case.

A permanent resident of Hetaunda-6, Makwanpur, Deepak Chhetri, had swindled Lekha Gharti of Tulsipur-1, Dang and currently residing at Gangobu, Kathmandu of Rs 8000,000, a gold chain and a gold ring with a false promise to make her a parter of his herb business.

Police said that Chhetri had lured Gharti saying that all the profits accumulated from the business will be divided equally between them.

Chhetri later returned Gharti's money keeping in a bag, but when she opened the bag, she found five bundles of plain papers, instead of money.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, a police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division nabbed him with Rs 79,000 in cash, a gold chain, a watch and a scotter from Bafal yesterday.

Police said that he has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for investigation.

Chhetri was detained with an American pistol in 2010 and was released in 2013.
