Policeman imposter held for theft

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for his alleged involvement in stealing cash and mobile phones from various mobile stores in New Bus Park area among other places of the Valley.

The suspect has been identified as Narayan BK (28) aka Dipendra Adhikari of Chautara Municipality-8, Sindhupalchok district, currently residing at Sitapaila in Kathmandu.

According to police, BK would identify himself as a Nepal Police staffer in front of public and defraud them frequently.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) nabbed BK from Nagarjun Municipality-4, Kathmandu.

Police said that they confiscated a Samsung Galaxy J7 mobile phone and his citizenship certificate from his possession.

According to the MPCD, he was arrested on various charges—theft and fraud— in the past as well.

In the most recent case, he was arrested on March 1, 2016 on charge of swindling people of Rs 50,000 posing himself as a policeman.

BK has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for investigation today, police said.
