Man held for swindling many with fake foreign job offers

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday said they arrested an absconding man who swindled various people with a false promise to send them abroad.

A special team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Divison arrested Ranjit Kandel (23) of Namatar VDC-3 in Makawanpur on Wednesday. He was currently residing in Satungal.

Kandel and his associates collected around Rs eight million from 13 people and forged visa applications for all the victims.

According to the police, Kandel, along with others, opened two fake consultancies – Euro and C Link Education Consultancy and Fly Euro Consultancy – and made false promises to send Khesam Tamang and other of Bhorle VDC of Rasuwa district to Germany for job opportunities.

Similarly, Kandel also swindled two including Sangita Tamang of Ramche-7 in Rasuwa alluring them with employment opportunities in South Africa. Seven including Laxmi Prasad Baral of Kanchanpur and two including Suman Sapkota of Mahadevsthan in Kavre were also cheated with promises of being sent to Mauritius and New Zealand respectively.

Arrestee Kandel has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for further action.

Search for other accomplices is underway, police added.
