Man uses Facebook to swindle with fake identity
KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested an alleged swindler, who had reportedly faked his identity on Facebook, from Chyamasingh of Bhaktapur.
A special team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested Tul Bahadur Tamang (33), a permanent resident of Mankha VDC in Sindhupalchok district, from his rented room in Bhaktapur.
According to police, Tamang ,with a fake identity as "JV" on the social networking site, approached different people claiming he had a permanent residency (PR) status of the United States of America.
Police further said Tamang swindled Rs 900,000 from Srijana Dong, working in Lebanon, assuring her to take her to the USA on a dependent visa.
He further managed to swindle Rs 1.3 million from the Dong family assuring her brothers also to send them to Canada.
Another Kusum Lama, who was working in Cyprus, was swindled of Rs 900,000 by Tamang with an assurance to take her to Canada.
Police said Tamang has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, for further action.
Investigations into similar cases are underway, police added.
