Many Goldhunga VDC people ignorant of CA

Goldhunga, April 1:

The Constituent Assembly election is just nine days away. But many people are still unaware about the purpose of the constituent assembly election in Goldhunga VDC which has 4,516 voters and falls under Constituency No 7 of Kathmandu district.

Though candidates of major parties have launched door-to-door campaigns, many locals claimed that they were not informed about the significance of the CA polls, so much so that they have no idea how this election differs from previous parliamentary polls.

A carpenter Ganesh Putwar at Nakhandole of Goldhunga-5 said many candidates visited him, but none of them explained about the CA. “I just understood that they will bring republic,” he said.

Gita Fuyal of ward 6, Bicharthok, also has similar views. She said the candidates never told her what CA would give to the Nepali people. “We just want peace and security in the country as no leader is going to do anything after he wins the polls,” Fuyal, a farmer by

profession, said.

“Instead of informing people about the essence of CA polls, candidates are only asking for the votes for their respective parties,” said a businessman, Nabaraj Fuyal of ward 8, Fuyalthok.

Many think this election was alike to the previous parliamentary elections and they want the party candidates to get their development works done. A significant number of locals seem to rely on their friends, relatives and neighbours to decide whom to vote for.

Pudke Tamang, 46, a worker at a factory in Balaju Industrial Area, said that no candidate has came to his residence asking for vote. “I will cast vote to the candidate whom my friends and neighbours would recommend,” he said.

He said he neither has knowledge about the candidates contesting from his constituency nor the system of election adopted. “I don’t know from where to receive information about the polls as I am busy with my works,” Tamang, a resident of Chhabeli, said. .

Another local Sanukaji Maharjan of Fulbari said despite he himself his college-going son and daughter are also not interested to caste their votes.

A local Shanta Bhandary, who is campaigning for the Maoist, admitted that they have not reached inner and northern parts of the VDC. She, however, said they have explained to the people about the CA during their campaign.
