Maoists to foil ‘plots’, focus on polls

Kathmandu, April 1:

The CPN-Maoist today decided to focus all its attention on the April 10 constituent assembly election and concluded that the party was the front runner in the crucial polls.

This decision has been taken after assessing the party’s situation in the run-up to the election during a meeting of the Maoist central secretariat chaired by chairman Prachanda, according to a statement issued by the party after its five-hour-long meeting held in the capital today.

“The CPN-Maoist has decided to foil conspiracies being hatched to disrupt the election and against the party,” the Maoists added in the statement.

The Maoists have also decided to “firmly implement” the electoral alliance forged with the other parties and to let the door of such alliance open at the local level considering the ground realities.

The decision comes shortly after the top leaders of three largest parties — the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist — issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to hold the election in a free, fair and impartial manner. All the Maoist central secretariat members available in the capital attended the meeting.
