Marathon for the mentally challenged

A marathon for mentally challenged children was organised here today. The minister of Education and Sports Radhakrishna Mainali was the chief guest. Fifty mentally challenged children took part in the competition organised by Terapanth Youth Council and Association of Guardians of the Mentally Challenged. The government is running programmes for these children and a budget of Rs 8 crore has been set aside for building a school, said Minister Mainali. At the function presided over by the first vice-Chairman of Terapanth Youth Council, Sushil Nahata, the coordinator of the programme, Ramesh Naulakha expressed his view that such programmes will help boost will-power of the mentally challenged children as well as help promote public awareness. Other speakers, including the chairman of Welfare Society for Mentally Challenged, Chudamani Tandukar, also expressed his views.
