MBS students clash with cops

KATHMANDU: First year MBS students of Shankar Dev Campus and Nepal Commerce Campus today clashed with security personnel during a sit-in organised by the students in front of the Office of Controller of Examination, Tribhuvan University, in Balkhu. The students are demanding to re-schedule the cancelled exam of July 27 of the MBS first year.

Hari Saran Neupane, first year MBS student of NCC, alleged that the police had rained batons on the students while they were protesting peacefully in front of the OCE gate. He said the police had suddenly lathi charged the students who had gone to hold talks with TU officials to work out a new date for the cancelled exams. "No sooner had our friends entered the gate for talks, security personnel began to lathi charge on them," he said.

Meanwhile, Sushil Singh Rathaur, DSP at Metropolitan Police Circle, Balkhu, said the police were compelled to use force as the students had hurled stones at the police van. At least 25 students and six police personnel including an inspector were injured in the incident.

Police arrested chairmen of the Free Students Union of three colleges namely Jhapendra Khatri of Patan Multiple Campus, Anup Chapagain of Education Campus, Tahachal, and Shuba Ram Basnyet of Shanker Dev Campus along with dozens of MBS first year students.

The students earlier today had also boycotted the MBS first year exam of Economics.
