Media Society Nepal formed

Kathmandu, August 17

Nepal Media Society, the umbrella organisation of private publications and Television Broadcasters Nepal (TBN), decided to merge into Media Society Nepal (MSN).

A decision to this effect was taken yesterday by a joint working committee meeting of the two organisations, stated a joint press release issued by MSN today.

Kailash Sirohiya (Kantipur Publications Pvt Ltd) was elected chairperson of the new organisation. Bhaskar Rajkarnikar (Avenues Television Pvt Ltd) and Raju Kandel (Mountain television) were elected vice-chairpersons.

Similarly, Shuva Shanker Kandel (ABC Media Group) was elected as General Secretary. Madan Lamsal (New Business Age) and Shishir Bhatta (Karobar National Daily) were elected as Secretary and Treasurer of the organisation respectively.

Issuing a press release here today, Sirohiya said the newly created MSN would soon hold talks with the government to improve the situation of Nepali media urging the government to recognise media as a special industry.
