Meet on governance concludes

Kathmandu, February 16:

Experts have suggested the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and the ministries concerned to develop their own model of governance and infrastructure development, based on their own needs and learning from the experiences of others.

A three-day workshop on ‘Governance and Infrastructure Development Challenges in the Kathmandu Valley’, which concluded here recently, recommended the KMC to develop an action plan to establish a regional planning mechanism with greater decision-making autonomy to the KMC and local bodies.

The workshop also discussed model case studies from India and the Philippines.

Devendra Dangol, chief of Physical Development and Construction Department of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, said a formal report of the workshop would be submitted to the Constitutional Committee of the Constituent Assembly and the Ministry of Local Development for the formation of an authority responsible for the overall development of the Kathmandu valley.
