Meet takes up draft education regulation

Kathmandu, May 5:

The government and representatives of the teachers’ union today discussed provisions that need to be incorporated in the draft education regulation. They also dwelt on job placement and job security of teachers.

The Department of Education (DoE) has been holding a series of talks with stakeholders of the education sector.

The government is holding a discussion on the draft education regulation with representatives of private schools tomorrow. It will discuss the matter with representatives of the Institutional Schools Teachers’ Union next week.

“These discussions focus on issues figuring in the Education Act, especially job placement and job security of teachers,” said Mahashram Sharma, director at the Department of Education.

“We are collecting suggestions from all stakeholders so as to incorporate them in the new education regulation.”

The next round of comprehensive discussions will be held on May 8.

The Education Ministry came up with a draft education regulation a month ago to complement the newly-amended Education Act. Among other things, the draft has recommended insurance facilities for teachers. Today’s discussion also dwelt on demands put forth by teachers’ bodies.
