Mention registration number on prescription, doctors told

Kathmandu, May 3

Nepal Medical Council has instructed all doctors to mention their names and registration numbers in their medical prescriptions.

“Due to increasing irregularities in the medical sector, we felt the need to give such instructions to all doctors,” said Dr Dhundi Raj Paudel, chief of ethical committee of NMC, adding that most of the doctors wrote medical prescriptions in illegible handwriting.

“I also used to write in handwriting, but after instructions from NMC, I started writing clearly,” he shared. He said there were nearly 21,000 registered doctors, but not all of them practised medicine.

NMC has also instructed medical specialists to put their signatures on medical prescriptions.
