Minister concerned about Maoists’ stir
POKHARA: Local Development Minister Purna Kumar Sherma today expressed concern about the movement scheduled to be launched by the UCPN-Maoist as it might adversely affect the statute drafting and peace process.
Addressing a gathering of zonal level cadres of Nepali Congress here, Sherma underscored the need of agreement and cooperation among the political parties.
“Not only the country will head towards cul de sac, but we also will lose our achievements so far if the constitution is not drafted on time,” he warned.
He urged the Maoists to withdraw the protest programmes and join the national government.
The minister also stressed on the need of unity among the parties to maintain law and order in Tarai districts.
He also said that it was rather difficult operating local bodies in the lack of people’s representatives as 2000 VDCs sans secretaries. He also said that the vacant positions of the VDC secretaries should be fulfilled through Public Service Commission.
