Minister to endorse new bill
KATHMANDU: Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjung said on Sunday that the bill concerning disappearances will be endorsed in the current session once the House disruption ends.
According to Rameshwor Nepal, director of Amnesty International Nepal Section, the Minister assured the representatives of eight international rights organisations during the meeting. The rights organisations submitted the memorandum recommending the provisions as per the international standard for the upcoming bill. The government has vowed that it would not let the culprits involved in the disappearances go unpunished after the bill.
The ICRC's statistics show that 1,348 people have disappeared mainly during the Maoist insurgency.
