Action was taken without any information on who the vehicle belonged to
An official vehicle of Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth was wheel-locked after the vehicle was found parked illegally on the sidewalk in a no-parking zone, at New Baneshwor, yesterday.
A white SUV with registration number Ba 2 Jha 4862, was wheel-locked for blocking the footpath. The wheel-lock was later removed after the minister’s driver Shiva Ram Thapa paid Rs 1,000 in fine.
Senior Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Panta at Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Singha Durbar, said that the action was taken without any information on who the vehicle belonged to. “It was not a publicity stunt,” he added.
Senior Superintendent of Police Panta also said that although they had found that the vehicle was registered with the home ministry, they didn’t know which minister the vehicle belonged to.
Meanwhile, Minister Mahaseth told The Himalayan Times that although he did not know about any such action until today, he welcomed the police action.
He said that it was a clear violation of rule to park the vehicle on the sidewalk against which he himself had lobbied.
“I feel bad that my vehicle was parked on the footpath. My driver has been punished as per the rule and I do not have any grievances against any one,” he said.
