Kathmandu, November 23

The Ministry of Health and Population has approved Nepal Medical Council’s decision to allow medical students, who studied at foreign medical colleges and completed six-month internship, to attend the licensing examination being conducted on December 8.

Earlier, on October 26, Nepal Medical Council had decided to implement accreditation standards for MBBS/BDS programmes, which stated that medical students who studied inside the country required a six-month internship to meet the criteria to appear the exam and students who had studied at foreign universities needed to complete a one-year internship to meet the criteria.

Following the decision of NMC, medical students launched protests and NMC called for a full house meeting and withdrew its decision to implement accreditation standards for MBBS/BDS programmes. An official statement on the decision of NMC was submitted to the Ministry of Health and Population.
